Times Square hasn`t seen a club that takes itself this seriously since the days of Club USA. In some ways it`s kind of nostalgically pleasing to see a crowd of people desperately clamouring to get over a velvet rope and into a club on an otherwise dead stretch of a mid-town street. Naturally it harks back to the days of Studio 54 and much more recently, Life. The question is is any big club worth the wait these days? You`ll have to decide and Saci is as good a place as any to find out. The space that previously held private parties for Vivienne Westwood, Madonna and Italian Vogue has finally opened its door to the people, or at least some of us. Saci, the name inspired by a Brazilian version of Baccus, is an intimate space for a midsized club, with two elevated bars that form the north and south boundaries. Down a level from each bar is a stage on the north side and a seating area on the south. At ground level the dance floor dominates with seating off to each side. The buzz at Saci hasn`t worn off and it probably won`t for some time. If not a regular on the modeling or media circuit, dress smart and always stay cool otherwise you could face the wrath of one Saci`s vigilant doormen.
